Advocacy event slated for Feb. 14 in Topeka

The Johnson County Area Agency on Aging (AAA) will participate with 10 other area agencies in a Kansas Association of Area Agencies on Aging (K4A) event Tuesday, Feb. 14, at the Capitol in Topeka.
During the event, called Older Kansans Day, each AAA will send advocates to visit with state legislators about issues important to Kansas senior adults. One critical area to be addressed is the funding of in-home services for elders who have health challenges. Each year, Older Kansans Day focuses on ensuring the dignity, health, independence, and self-sufficiency of older Kansans.
The 11 Kansas AAAs serve seniors in all 105 counties. K4A is an alliance of the agencies, which collaborate to meet the needs of older Kansans. The AAAs in Kansas are the designated single point of entry for senior services in the state. They are part of a national network of 56 state agencies on aging and 629 AAAs. The AAAs were established under the Older Americans Act in 1973 to respond to the needs of seniors and caregivers in local communities.
The AAAs are federally mandated as the leader on aging issues at the local level. K4A partners with public and private enterprises throughout Kansas, the region, and the nation to deliver easily accessed, high-quality services for aging persons.
