Long-term care guide empowers consumers

Kansas Go-To Guide

Do you know anyone who isn't aging? We are all getting older each day.

Do you ever think about what your life will look like if you are not able to care for yourself? Reality sets in when we think about these things.

Kansas Advocates for Better Care has created an important (and free) resource for consumers trying to navigate the intricate systems for long-term care. The new guide, the "Kansas Go-To Guide: Navigating Resources for the Best Long-Term Care," was produced through a grant from the National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care.

The guide is a collection of information and resources, contact information, and helpful insights useful to persons with mental, physical, or developmental disabilities, older adults, veterans, and caregivers.

Available online at www.kabc.org or in print, the guide illustrates how to put the pieces of long-term care together, whether you are a new user or already receive services. For questions or concerns, call toll-free 800-525-1782 or 785-842-3088.

Kansas Advocates for Better Care is a Lawrence-based organization with resources to help people confronting the reality of long-term care. The organization advocates for people in many ways, including answering phone calls from distressed family members and collaborative training in nursing homes with the Kansas Long-Term Care Ombudsman. Kansas Advocates for Better Care also produces consumer guides about legal and financial protection, and works with Kansas legislators to change ineffective or unfair policies. No matter the project, the mission is the same—ensuring that people who need it have high-quality long-term care.
