Revised guies help you 'Explore Your Options'

The 2010-2011 edition of "Explore Your Options: A Kansas Guide to Information and In-Home Services" is now available. Again this year, two separate publications are available—a guide listing providers of information and services by county, and a localized directory of services for the Johnson County Area Agency on Aging.

The 18th edition of "Explore Your Options" helps you through the maze of services available to Kansas seniors. It is designed to help you take an active role in making decisions that affect your health care and your living situation. Even if you face a serious illness or a disabling disease, knowing that you have options to help you maintain your independence and stay at home can be a great comfort. The purpose of this resource is to let you know about services in the community that can provide solutions for your needs.

Part One explains the kinds of services that can help you stay at home.

Part Two discusses housing and long-term care options. This will be of interest if you are considering moving or if you have been residing in a nursing facility and plan to return home.

Part Three includes eligibility criteria for some services, as well as maps and lists of agencies and organizations that may be able to provide more information.

A separate book, Part Four, provides information about the particular services available in Johnson County. The booklet includes an overview of services available through the AAA, followed by a service directory for the area compiled by AAA staff.

We encourage you to call the Johnson County Area Agency on Aging at 913-715-8861 for additional information and assistance. Aging information specialists will provide current information about services in the county and connect you with the right people to get services started.

The purpose of this directory is to provide information that will allow senior Kansans to remain in their homes as long as possible and to maintain their security, dignity, and independence. You may also visit www.agingkansas.org, which is linked to many other resources that will help you explore your options.

The guide is published by the Kansas Department on Aging and the Kansas Aging and Disability Resource Connection. Copies are available at Johnson County Human Services, 11811 S. Sunset Drive, Suite 1300, Olathe, 913-715-8800, or at any of the six Johnson County Outreach centers. To learn the location nearest you, call the Johnson County Information Line, 913-715-8999, or visit http://hsa.jocogov.org (click on "Community Outreach").
