Legislators and candidates invited to COA sessions

State legislators and candidates for the fall elections have been invited to join members of the Johnson County Commission on Aging (COA) at meetings Wednesday, Sept. 8, or Wednesday, Oct. 13. The meetings, which are open to the public, will take place in Room 1055 of the Sunset Drive Office Building, 11811 S. Sunset Drive, Olathe (northwest of the intersection of 119th Street and Ridgeview Road).

Each COA session will begin with a continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m., followed by informal advocacy discussion from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. The business meeting will start at 10:15 a.m. Legislators are invited to stay.

The meetings will provide an opportunity for commission members to talk with legislators and candidates about state issues, advocacy, and other topics of interest to older adults in the county. The sessions also provide an opportunity for legislators and candidates to share their viewpoints and perspectives with the COA, exchange thoughts, and dialogue about issues of concern. The sessions will assist COA members in pinpointing the future direction of COA planning.

The COA is appointed by the Johnson County Board of County Commissioners to provide information, guidance, advice, and support to the Johnson County Area Agency on Aging. The commission is liaison to the board concerning the needs of older residents and public services provided to meet those needs.
