Social Security office cuts public hours
|
The Johnson County Social Security Administration office is now open to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday—a reduction of 30 minutes each weekday. The office is at 15375 W. 95th St. in Lenexa.
Agency employees will continue to work their regular hours, but this shortened public access allows the agency to complete face-to-face service with the public without incurring the cost of overtime. Congress allocated nearly $1 billion less to Social Security than the president requested for this fiscal year, which makes it impossible to pay the amount of overtime needed to handle the same level of public service as in the past.
Most Social Security services do not require an office visit. For example, anyone wishing to apply for benefits, sign up for direct deposit, replace a Medicare card, obtain a proof-of-income letter, or report a change of address or telephone number may do so at www.socialsecurity.gov or by calling toll-free 800-772-1213. Clients who are deaf or hard of hearing may call the office's TTY, 800-325-0778.
