On April 19, at the Roeland Park Community Center, we were privileged to hear Marine veterans Max DeWeese and Fred Miller share their experiences at Guadalcanal and Bougainville. The Japanese tried three times to take back the islands held by the Marines and the Army.

These two veterans recalled the dates and time of day of certain events and battles in the Pacific like it was yesterday. Thank you, Mr. Miller and Mr. DeWeese, for your service in keeping the enemy from taking Australia.

We are grateful to the 50 Plus staff and Gary Swanson for their programs in keeping us ever mindful of the cost of freedom. Please call the Roeland Park Community Center for the dates and times of the remaining four history sessions. You will be glad you did.
