Letter to the editor

Dear Editor:

I really enjoyed your article "Seniors and Bikes" in the July issue of The Best Times.

I'm 65 and a fairly avid bike rider myself. I don't do the long distances that Ms. Bartocci and Ms. DeBruyn have done, but I'm on my bike whenever it's feasible: riding to work (about a 15-minute ride), to the Matt Ross Community Center to work out (about a 25-minute ride), or just getting on the Indian Creek and Tomahawk Creek trails, where I'll ride anywhere from one to three hours.

It's a shame there are not more cyclists in this area, of any age. Having just returned from Portland, where there are bike racks on every block, I was reminded of how it could be. Riding a bike is not only healthy for the rider, but also for those who don't like breathing car exhaust. Not to mention the great gas mileage!

Perhaps as more of us older folks are seen riding, others will be encouraged to do the same.
