Leader trainings to be offered for chronic disease management programs |
The Kansas Arthritis Program and the Kansas Department on Aging will hold free leader trainings for the Kansans Optimizing Health Program (KOHP) and Tomando Control de su Salud.
KOHP and Tomando Control are six-week workshops conducted for 2 1/2 hours once a week in community settings. The programs were developed by Stanford University to teach the skills necessary to self-manage chronic diseases, including arthritis, heart disease, asthma, diabetes, and lung disease.
The workshops allow participants to learn from and share with their peers. Workshops subjects include techniques to deal with frustration, pain, and fatigue; how to exercise safely; medications; communication techniques for family and medical team members; nutrition; and making informed treatment decisions.
