Health > 2011 Screening Schedules

Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) Screenings

Peripheral artery disease occurs when extra cholesterol and other fats in the blood stick to the walls of the arteries that supply blood to your legs and arms. The buildup can reduce or block the flow of blood, which can increase your risk of heart attack and stroke. PAD screenings check for blood vessel health.

The screenings are for persons 60 and older who have not been screened in the past 12 months. People being screened must be able to lie flat for 20 minutes. Health Department nurses will take blood pressure in both arms and both ankles.

An appointment is required. To schedule or for questions, call 913-477-8333.

The screenings are partially funded by the Johnson County Area Agency on Aging, and donations are accepted.

All screenings are 9:00 a.m. to noon.

Notes: Clinics are cancelled when Johnson County public schools are closed because of the weather.
