Help for cash-strapped pet owners

In difficult economic times like these, when many people are forced to prioritize their spending every day, caring for beloved pets can fall to the bottom of the list—to the physical detriment of the pet and the emotional pain of the owners.

A nonprofit organization, No More Homeless Pets KC, can provide a lifeline in these cases. In January, it opened a medical clinic in Johnson County. Residents may take their pets there for spaying and neutering, vaccinations, dental work, heartworm treatment, surgery, and general wellness and preventive care.

The organization's target audience is residents who do not have a private veterinarian and can't afford to pay for such care. Pet owners are required to prove financial need and meet income guidelines.
