AARP Tax-Aide 2011 seeks volunteers; sign up now!

If you want to make a difference in the Johnson County community and are not afraid of people, computers, tax returns, personal challenges, or learning new things, then AARP Tax-Aide may provide the perfect volunteer opportunity.

The nation's largest free, volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service needs volunteers to help local taxpayers prepare and file their personal tax returns next year. Volunteers, who do not need to be an AARP member or retiree, will assist residents with low to moderate incomes, with special attention to those 60 and older. Volunteers will receive free training in filing the 1040 tax form and basic schedules, and are reimbursed on a limited basis for qualified program-related expenses.

Last year, Kansas AARP Tax-Aide District 27 (serving Johnson County) helped more than 8,000 taxpayers with their returns from early February through April 15.
